SVdP SPRING BASEBALL REGISTRATION

Registration fees and forms must be returned to the school office by 3:15 PM Friday, February 24th.

SVdP SPRING BASEBALL 2012
The SVdP Spring Baseball season will be here before you know it!
Registration forms will be available in the February Crusader Connection.
Look for a Fast Direct email with details in late February.
Registration fee is $80.00 per student. In addition, each player must purchase his own 2012 embroidered uniform cap at a cost of $12.00. Each player will provide his own baseball glove and a pair of BLACK baseball pants, red socks and molded rubber cleats. A uniform jersey will be provided. Jerseys must be returned at the end of the season, players will keep their caps.

WIDGET BASEBALL
SVdP baseball offers 3rd and 4th grade boys the opportunity to participate in the St. Bernadette Instructional Baseball League. This is a "kid pitch" league and a great environment for learning the game and developing baseball skills. Ninety minute practices will be held two days per week after school at Crestmoor Park. Games will be played Friday evenings and Saturdays at St. Bernadettes School, 1100 Upham Street in Lakewood. Practices will begin the week of March 12th weather permitting. Games will begin the third week of March and end the last week in April. A post-season league tournament will be held the first week of May.

The JV Baseball team is open to 5th and 6th Grade boys.
Two hour practices will be held Mondays and Fridays at Fishhack Field at Congress Park from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Practices begin the week of March 12th.
VARSITY BASEBALL
The Varsity Baseball team is open to 7th and 8th grade boys. Two hour practices will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays at Fishhack Field at Congress Park from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Practices begin March the week of March 12th.
Practices will be held indoors at the SVdP gym if the weather is uncooperative.
JV AND VARSITY GAMES
JV and Varsity Teams compete in the Catholic Schools Athletic League (CSAL) http://www.csalden.org/
Away games will be played at parish schools around the league. The SVdP JV/Varsity home field is at Congress Park at Jospehine and E. 8th Avenue. A league tournament follows the regular season and and typically concludes by to May 15th.

We will keep in touch primarily by email, and this online team bulletin board (blog). Please check here as well as your email for weather related cancellations. Cancellations will be posted here by 3:00 pm.
If you receive a “rain out” communication by email, please let your coach know you received it by sending a short reply such as ”O.K. or “thanks.”
Siblings attending practice must have adult supervision.
If you are running late or can’t make it to a game please call to inform your coach.

1. Bases are 60 feet
2. Pitching distance is 43 feet
3. Game Limit: 1 hour or 5 innings
4. Teams must bat entire lineup
5. Pitcher can pitch only three consecutive innings per game
6. Rule of 10’s: If a team is ahead by 10 runs in any inning, they must switch to the field after the 10th batter. If the team don’t have 10 players, they must switch to the field after the last batter in the line-up.
7. No Infield Fly Rule
8. No dropped third strike
9. Players may not lead off or steal, except from third base to home, after the ball has crossed home plate. Starting in mid April (date to be announced) players may lead off, and steal from any base.
10. This is an instructional league, therefore, no player may crossover and play J.V or Varsity Baseball while a part of this league.

A. TEAM MEMBERS
I. Teams must submit a roster of no less than 12 members. Exceptions are subject to the approval of the CSAL Director.
II. A team can play with a minimum of 8 players, if no other players are available. If an eligible 9th player is available, he must play. If a team forfeits a game and wishes to play with exchanged players (scrimmage), that game will be a CSAL sanctioned game.
B. TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES
I. The host team will determine the home team. In post-season tournament games, a flip of the coin in the pre-game conference will determine the home team.
II. The home team is to provide a competent scorekeeper and a scorebook.
III. The teams scheduled to play share the responsibility of lining the field and placing the bases.
IV. Each team will provide a game quality ball.
C. FIELD MARKINGS
I. Pitching Distance- Varsity- 54 feet ... Jr. Varsity- 50 feet 6 inches
II. Base Distance- Varsity -80 feet ..... Jr. Varsity- 70 feet.
SPECIAL RULES
I. No Steel Spikes
II. No hard casts, hard splints, or non-covered braces. Medical alert bracelets or necklaces are to be taped down without covering the tag.
III. One warning on balks per pitcher. After the warning, balks will be penalized.
IV. Courtesy runner will be allowed for catcher only. Courtesy runner will be the last person to make an out.
V. A Varsity pitcher may only pitch a total of 7 innings (21 outs) within 2 days. A Jr. Varsity pitcher may only pitch a total of 5 innings (15 outs) within 2 days. Pitches who throw on two consecutive calendar days must rest the third calendar day regardless of innings pitched. This applies to regular season and tournament games.
VI. No jewelry.
VII. No Jr. Varsity team may score more than 10 runs in one at bat.
E. GAME TIME LIMITS AND INNINGS
I. The Jr. Varsity game shall consist of 5 innings. A Varsity game is 7 innings.
II. A 10 run difference terminates a Varsity game after 5 full innings or 4 1/2 innings if the home team is ahead and a Jr. Varsity game after 4 innings or 3 1/2 if the home team is ahead.
III. A new inning shall not start after one hour and forty-five minutes for Varsity and one hour and thirty minutes for Jr. Varsity.
F. BATTING LINE-UP
I. Teams must bat their entire roster. Batting the entire line-up allows free substitution at any position in the field.
II. Players must participate in 70% of league games in order to participate in the post-season tournament.

JV's ELIMINATED IN ROUND THREE OF CSAL TOURNEY
The Junior Varsity ended their season today with a tough third round loss to Sts. Peter and Paul.
